The Grand Bahama Power Company (GBPC) wishes to apologize to the public for the island wide interruption in power that occurred yesterday morning.
GBPC advises that it experienced a system disturbance at approximately 9:07a on Sunday August 19 which caused the generation equipment to operate outside its normal limits. As a result this forced a complete shutdown of GBPC’s generation system.
Our crews were immediately deployed to begin resolving the issue. By 12:00p, GBPC began restoring electricity supply to affected customers and full power was restored to all customers by 1:30p.
GBPC assures its customers that we are conducting a thorough investigation of yesterday’s outage to prevent the likelihood of any similar occurrences.
Once again we apologize to customers for the inconvenience caused and continue to work diligently on improving reliability.
