The Grand Bahama Power Company wishes to apologize to the public for the island-wide interruption in power that occurred last night.
At 6:55pm last evening we had a failure on a critical transmission line that resulted in the tripping of our generation units, causing an island-wide interruption in power. Our crews were immediately deployed to begin assessing the situation and working to restore power to our customers.
At 10:10pm power was fully restored to all customers with the exception of customers on the eastern end of the island. This was attributed to a damaged fuse located at the substation that supplies power to that part of the island. At 12:12 am power was fully restored.
Our customer service team experienced exceptionally high call volumes due to last night’s outage, and we sincerely apologize to those customers who could not get through to receive an outage update or estimated restoration time.
We are in the process of investigating what lead to the initial failure of the transmission line. We will continue to work diligently on significantly minimizing incidents of this nature for our customers.
