The Equity Rate Adjustment (ERA) is a revision to GBPC's tariff structure designed to create a balanced distribution of electricity costs among customers.

The new structure is based on a simple principle: those who use less electricity would pay less. It encourages energy conservation while providing greater affordability for lower consumption households and supporting the long-term sustainability of the electricity system.

The adjustment was approved by the Minister of Energy, Utilities and Aviation under the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2024, following consultation with the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA).

The Equity Rate Adjustment Will Be Implemented In Phases: RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS: Effective with the June 2026 billing cycle. COMMERCIAL AND ALL OTHER CUSTOMERS CLASSES: Anticipated to transition effective July 2026.

BENEFITS OF THE ERA

The Equity Rate Adjustment is designed to:

MEANINGFUL SAVINGS GREATER AFFORDABILITY ENERGY CONSERVATION Reduce electricity costs for residential customers through lower base rates, reduced fuel charges, and the elimination of the Storm Recovery and Stabilization Charge, helping families keep more money in their pockets. Lower fuel charges for the first 800 kWh and a zero base tariff on the first 200 kWh provide immediate and measurable savings for the majority of residential customers. The revised rate structure rewards responsible energy use by providing lower rates for the first 800 kWh consumed, encouraging customers to manage consumption efficiently while reducing overall system demand. EXPANDED VAT RELIEF With lower overall electricity bills, nearly 90% of residential customers are expected to fall within the VAT-free category, creating an additional layer of savings for households across Grand Bahama. A SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FUTURE The ERA supports the long-term sustainability and reliability of Grand Bahama's electricity system by encouraging responsible energy use while helping ensure continued investment in safe, reliable, and resilient service for the community.

NEW ERA RATES Under Phase 1, residential customers will be billed using the following base tariff:
